Premise

In the year 2014, Simran Akhtar was diagnosed with "Raglan syndrome," a myopathy that threatened to kill her in months. At first, things seemed hopeless; then came the intervention of mysterious R&D corporation Perihelion, Inc.

Perihelion revealed that her disease was connected to the onset of her burgeoning psychic powers, and that they could forestall her death in exchange for her service. Desperate to live, Simran accepted, and was quickly loaded into an advanced medical pod. Under the supervision of one Dr. Charity Greene, her body fell into cryogenic stasis. Simran's mind, however, leapt free to roam the world as a psychic phantom.

Simran was placed on a team of fellow psychics and dispatched to investigate and handle paranormal mysteries: strange cults, unexplained disappearances, cases of "possession," and more. As they captured or defeated more and more rogue psychic entities, it became clear to Simran that Perihelion was not here to protect humanity. Its true goal was simple: eliminate rivals to its dominance in the psychosphere.

After two and a half years of work, Perihelion had apparently extracted what it needed from Simran and her coworkers. The company made a move to "terminate superfluous assets," but quick thinking and careful planning allowed the team and a few sympathetic allies to flee.

In the escape, Simran and Dr. Greene stumbled onto key intelligence regarding a possible treatment for her illness. As Simran and the team worked against Perihelion from the shadows, Dr. Greene helped create the treatment. Simran was still disabled, but she was no longer podbound, and she could expect to live much longer than her previous six-month estimate. Simran proved key in the final infiltration of Perihelion's headquarters and the confrontation with its leader. Now, however, she must consider what she can make of her life. Though she is no longer a corporate asset, she will never be normal again.

PSYCHIC PHANTOM

Psychic "ghost" that can behave as Simran's body, except that it's largely intangible. The phantom was once completely beyond detection, but can now be made perceptible by means of passive-radius psychoneural interference.

NEURAL MIRAGES

Low-fidelity mirages that act directly on the sensory nerves. Cannot reliably alter a target's sense of touch. Violent mirages can occasionally produce a split second of true pain by exploiting a phenomenon similar to the body transfer illusion.

PSYCHIC MASKING

Interfering with sensory nerves allows total erasure from neural perception by observers. This form of camouflage is extremely difficult to pierce.

PSYCHONEURAL ENCRYPTION

Cerebral activity is encrypted using quantum-resistant algorithms relying on her own memories as encryption keys. Prevents direct interference with the mind, defending against neural mirages and mental control. Essentially impossible to break.
